colectivofuturoThe Great Exploration AW13 collection by Canadian based Muttonhead is a great looking unisex garment collection taking inspiration from the great outdoors and a ‘slow design’ ethos. We think the brand is doing a great job in crafting simple looking pieces that are functional, yet quite stylish, and would look great mixed with wares from some of our other favorite labels. Honestly, we can’t wait for these pieces to show up on the racks of our frequented London shops.

Awww shucks Colectivo Futuro, you guys are making us blush.

As the 2012 Olympic Games are underway in London, it is interesting to think about the conflicting message the games maybe sending. The purpose of the Olympics is to encourage physical activity, promote healthy living, and inspire the next generation to exercise. However, in having the major sponsors of the Games as McDonald’s and Coca-Cola, this sends another message entirely. Their ad campaigns exhibiting professional athletes eating junk food hardly seem realistic, or a good example of the younger generation they are trying to inspire.
Thoughts?

Looks like even the Royal Mail has Olympic fever. For the Summer 2012 Olympics they made limited edition stamps that pay tribute to London’s famous landmarks and feature four British Olympians in action.

maybe #womenswear should take some cues…

wgsn: More and more designers are opting to use varied models on their catwalks and Oliver Spencer demonstrated this perfectly during his spring/summer 2013 show at London Collections: Men. It certainly adds a touch of substance and character to the clothes, what do you think?

#DIY: Pallet Furniture

We just discovered the East London Furniture company that makes all of their products from 100% recycled materials, right in the heart of London’s East End.

All of the wood and other materials they use are made from salvaged waste, meaning that these materials have been saved from a life in a landfill!

To see more of their products, and to check out the editorial that was shot with their Hi Stools in i-D magazine head over to their blog.

We also took a crack at repurposing old wood, check out our post on how to build your own compost.

EXHIBITION: Yohji Yamamoto
From 12 March - 10 July 2011, the Victoria and Albert Museum is launching an exhibition dedicated to the work of avant-garde fashion designer Yohji Yamamoto. Known best for challenging the traditional notions of fashion, Yamamoto became internationally renowned during the early 1980s for his garments that seemed oversized and unfinished. The retrospective will highlight over 60 of the designer’s creations, including his menswear, in a series of site-specific installations that stretch across the city of London.
